Jacob "Jake" Martin Spencer is the son of Jason Morgan and Elizabeth Webber. He was born on May 7, 2007. Jake has three half-brothers, Cameron Webber and Aiden Spencer through Elizabeth and Daniel "Danny" Morgan through Jason. At the time Elizabeth became pregnant she was unsure if Jason or her estranged husband Lucas Lorenzo "Lucky" Spencer Jr. was the father of her child. Elizabeth runs a secret DNA test which reveals that Jason is the child's father. Elizabeth allows everyone to believe that Lucky is the child's father because Lucky who had been having drug problems got clean for the baby. In February 2007, Elizabeth reveals her child's true paternity to Jason but asks him to let Lucky raise the child because she wants to keep her child away from Jason's mob lifestyle. Elizabeth names him Jacob Martin Spencer to give him Jason's initials.

When Jake is just a few months old, his kidnapped by a woman named Maureen Harper but she later returns him. About a year later, Lucky learns the truth about Jake's paternity but agrees to continue raising him as his own child as he had been doing with Cameron. Elizabeth and Lucky's marriage breaks up with Elizabeth and Jason having a secret relationship and Lucky moving on with Jason's ex-fiancee Samantha "Sam" McCall. Neither relationship last and Jason returns to Sam and Elizabeth returns to Lucky.

Lucky and Elizabeth become engaged again but Elizabeth starting having an affair with Lucky's half-brother Nikolas Cassadine. Lucky and Elizabeth split. Elizabeth is unsure of her child's paternity and the test reveal that Nikolas is the father and Elizabeth welcomes Aiden. Elizabeth begins to think that Aiden looks more like Lucky then Nikolas and runs a secret DNA test on Aiden. When Elizabeth is reading the DNA results, Jake is struck by a hit-and-run driver and rushed to hospital. Jake is later decleared brain-dead and put on life support. Lucky and Elizabeth donate Jake's kindney to Caroline "Carly" Benson's daughter Josslyn Jacks, who is dying of cancer. Jake dies on March 11, 2011. It is revealed that Lucky's father Lucas Lorenzo "Luke" Spencer Sr. was the hit-and-run driver.
On July 9, 2015 it is revealed that Jake is alive and well and his death and Luke's involvement in his death set up by Luke's enemy and Nikolas's grandmother Helena Romanov. Jake having been raised by Helena on Cassadine Island for the past four years. Lucky returns Jake to town and he is reunited with Elizabeth.
